Is Abortion Murder?
Nothing stirs activists into heaping guilt onto women quite like the subject of abortion. Anti-abortionists claim abortion is murder, and they have been known to intimidate and even kill doctors who carry out the procedure. There is talk now about prosecuting women who have abortions.
Now yes, those cute wee baby thingies in there sucking their thumbs do look human. But are they? What does God think about abortion? What does the bible say about it? It's time to sit down folks, put our emotions to one side, and take a serious look into God's word on this most important of subjects.
Our first surprise perhaps on studying abortion is that the bible says nothing whatsoever about it. Abortion isn't mentioned anywhere in the bible. God is entirely silent on the subject. It is an interesting phenomenon that what God is silent about in his word, such as abortion, man tends to become irrational about, while what God screams about in his word, such as homosexuality, man seems quite happy to ignore.
Why is God silent on the subject of abortion? If it was such a terrible crime, surely God would have mentioned it somewhere in the bible, wouldn't he?
Silent though the bible may be on the subject of abortion, it is certainly not silent on murder and how we should deal with it.
Leviticus 24:17,21
And he that killeth any man shall surely be put to death. And he that killeth a beast, he shall restore it: and he that killeth a man, he shall be put to death.
There is no possible way to misunderstand these verses. Murder should always be punishable by death. That is what God states unequivocally and unquestionably in his word. There can be no misunderstandings here. Therefore, if abortion was murder in God's eyes, the appropriate penalty would be death.
Keeping this in mind, let's now read a section of scripture in Exodus.
Exodus 21:22,23
If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman's husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine. And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life,
Exodus deals with men injuring pregnant women to the extent they miscarry and lose their babies. The punishment? A fine as determined by the husband and agreed by the judges. If the woman later dies as a result of her injuries, then that would incur the death penalty.
What is this saying?
Well, clearly, killing a foetus, in God's eyes, is definitely not murder or it would carry the death penalty. If an unborn child were a human being and it was killed in such a struggle, the death penalty would definitely be appropriate biblically. However, God instructed Moses to teach the children of Israel that to injure a pregnant woman to the extent she lost her baby, a fine would be appropriate. In other words, killing an unborn child is not reckoned by God to be murder, otherwise the appropriate penalty would be death by execution, not a fine.
It is interesting to note that unborn children are referred to as fruit in the bible. This is because a child developing in the womb has not breathed yet and has no soul. It is merely a piece of fruit growing inside the woman. We have no soul until we breathe. This is clearly taught in Genesis. Man is not alive until he breathes.
Genesis 2:7
And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
When does man become a living soul? When he breathes. Soul life is in the blood, and as we breathe our blood circulates with oxygen, giving us life. Before we breathe we are not alive, we do not have a soul. When we breathe, we are alive, and when we take our last breath, we are dead. As long as we breathe, we are alive. That's why the bible refers to babies in the womb as fruit. That's all they are. Until a baby is born and breathes it has no soul. It's just a plant, a piece of fruit, something that grows inside a woman.
When Elizabeth was pregnant with John the Baptist, she went to visit Mary who was pregnant with Jesus Christ. When Elizabeth arrived at Mary's, the baby in her womb moved, prompting Elizabeth to prophesy by holy spirit.
Luke 1:41,42
And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled [plethō] with the Holy Ghost [holy spirit]:And she spake out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb.
Elizabeth was filled to overflowing [plethō] with holy spirit, meaning she manifested holy spirit. She spoke a word of prophesy. Listen to what she said, Blessed is the fruit of thy womb. Elizabeth, by a manifestation of holy spirit, called the baby in Mary's womb fruit. Even the Lord Jesus Christ was not alive before he was born, he was just a piece of fruit growing in Mary's womb.
What can we learn from all this? Well, clearly, abortion is not murder. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, and nor does God. He's completely silent on the issue and so am I. However, it most definitely is not murder. So all those religious nuts out there screaming about the human rights of unborn babies, claiming they are living human beings are wrong. They are ignorant and unlearned.
This isn't to say that abortion is always right, not at all, but it does clearly absolve women who have had abortions of the charge of murder. They have committed no crimes. All they have done is remove a piece of fruit.
A person is not alive, no one has a soul until they breathe. When you breathe, you are alive, you have soul, when you take your last breath you are dead, you have no soul. That's what the bible teaches. I'm not saying abortion is right, not at all. If a foetus is aborted and breathes it is alive and if you kill it that is murder, biblically. How old does a baby have to be before it could breathe if it were born? That should be the cut off date for abortions, and would allow raped women to abort if they so desire without being forced to raise a child they did not want. It's always one extreme or the other these days.
Now, if you didn't know any better, fine, no big deal, apologise and move on. However, if you're one of these religious pricks who dresses up in stupid robes or wears a ridiculous white collar around your neck and you teach that abortion is murder, shut your fucking mouth and leave our wonderful women alone. It is up to them whether or not they have children and it's none of your business. Instead of being a viper and a scorpion, a blind leader of the blind, learn to read your bible and get some accurate word of God into your head.
You women who have had abortions, don't worry about it. You've done absolutely nothing wrong, you have committed no crimes, you haven't killed anyone, you simply removed a piece of yourself, fruit which had no life, no soul. God isn't mad at you, he loves you.
Romans 8:1
There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
